There was a lot of backlash over zkSync’s impending airdrop launch on Tuesday as it was revealed that just 695K qualified customers would take part.
ZK coin airdrop receives backlash from the cryptocurrency community
zkSync, an Ethereum Layer 2 network, has introduced its native currency and plans to airdrop some of it to users who are actively involved in its ecosystem.17.5% of the 21 billion tokens that the protocol has in total are scheduled to be airdropped to 695K wallets.
3.675 billion of the total token supply will be given as a one-time airdrop to qualifying wallets, which have already been selected based on early project participation, according to a statement from zkSync.
As part of a DAO, users might suggest and cast votes on protocol updates using ZK tokens. The project states that through governance-driven protocol upgrades, the community can add capabilities like staking to ZK.
Wallets that took part in the zkSync Era or zkSync Lite networks before March 24, the first anniversary of the zkSync Era mainnet launch, will receive a portion of the drop.
Many in the cryptocurrency community have expressed their disapproval of the announcement, arguing that the airdrop wasn’t equitable for all users. Due to this, there is a ZK scam trend on social networking site X, and the majority of people in the crypto world are calling on zkSync to raise the number of people who receive airdrops.
A user named X posted:
“This will be the community’s largest fraud airdrop if ZKsync doesn’t raise the qualifying wallet from 696K to 1M. Sincere farmers who have been supporters of ZKsync since the beginning are still ineligible for the $ZK airdrop.”
A further X user commented:
“A few hopes were dashed by the $ZK airdrop today, thanks to the @zksync team. Not always is hard work rewarded.”
Lookonchain has observed that 76,848 ZK tokens will be sent to a wallet that was heavily advantaged by the Optimism and Arbitrum airdrop.
