“India Won 119-113”: A picture from a US media story that depicts India winning the 2024 T20 World Cup against Pakistan goes viral

In 2024, the United States of America (USA) and the Caribbean Islands will host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Cricket is not new in the West Indies, but it is still not very well recognized in the United States. Cricket scorecards are something that would take time for the US media to understand, even as the country grows accustomed to the sport and the reporting on cricket.

A photo from a New York Times story about the India vs. Pakistan T20 World Cup 2024 match went viral on social media. The story described the match as high-stakes, but it utilized NBA-style scorelines to imply that India won, “119-113.” Interestingly, India scored 119 runs before restricting Pakistan to 113. India’s victory over Pakistan is typically recorded in cricket records as a 6-run victory.

In the IND vs. PAK match, Jasprit Bumrah was named player of the match.

As India defeated their bitter opponents, Jasprit Bumrah was the team’s preferred bowler. In this version of the game, India did not achieve a very high total, but Bumrah’s 3/14 off his 4 overs helped them over the finish line. Axar Patel’s 1/11 off his 2 overs and Hardik Pandya’s 2/24 from his 4 overs contributed to India’s successful 119-run defense.

Pakistan’s bowlers performed admirably, with Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, and Mohammad Amir taking three wickets apiece and Amir taking two wickets, but their batsmen once again failed to raise their game, leading to their second consecutive loss in the T20 World Cup 2024.
