This year, Democrats are facing off in three Boulder County state House and Senate districts, all of which are centered in the Boulder region. According to preliminary results, one candidate was leading her campaign by a slim margin, while two others seemed to be heading for victory. A second set of results, released at 8:45 p.m., showed no change in the overall rankings.
House District 10 is the tightest contest so far, with retired science instructor Tina Mueh behind incumbent state representative Junie Joseph by almost 15 percentage points. At 8:45 p.m., Mueh had 4,671 votes, or 42.48% of the total, while Joseph had 6,326 votes, or 57.52% of the total. District 10 covers a portion of Gunbarrel and much of Boulder, particularly east of Broadway.
Joseph, a former member of the Boulder City Council, was selected by a vacancy committee to the state Legislature in 2022. She narrowly prevailed in the general election held that same autumn.
Joseph was unavailable for comment at the time of writing.
If Joseph maintains her advantage, she will face Republican William DeOreo in November, even though the contest is still too close to call. In the primaries, he had no opposition.
