Meta’s threads will use a new advertising approach to take on X: Report

With Threads getting ready to roll out advertising, the long-running battle between two internet titans has evolved into a direct commercial conflict.

According to Bloomberg, Meta quickly launched Threads in July 2023 in response to customer outcry over Musk’s modifications to X. The site offered essentially comparable functionality, including likes, followers, and a feed that was updated depending on user activity.

With over 175 million monthly users, Threads has quickly overtaken rivals like BlueSky and Mastodon and caught up to X.

Once again, celebrities, journalists, and politicians who used to dominate Twitter’s breaking news scene have gravitated to Threads, which has added numerous noteworthy features.

To filter out objectionable information from feeds, Threads included two new features: “Hidden Words” and “Recent,” which order search results according to the most recent entries.

Though Threads isn’t as big as X, its user base is growing quickly. If Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri’s plans are implemented, Threads and X will soon face off in the advertising market.

Meta intends to use its experience in digital advertising to provide more individualized and targeted adverts on Threads.
