The Premier League and Sports Interactive, the company behind the Football Manager series, have reached an agreement for the games that will be released over the next four years.
The 20 clubs that makeup England’s football league will have complete licensing rights to the games, including player images, team logos, and uniforms, starting with the 2024–2025 season.
Access to the equally significant Premier League serves to widen the audience for both the sports management series and football in the United Kingdom. Additionally, publisher Sega may be eligible for a future renewal of the multi-year agreement, which may be for a longer duration.
When sports games are able to license real-world teams, everyone wins
Deals like these can be profitable for both the sporting organization and the developer when it comes to sports games, especially football (or soccer, as it is called in the United States).
Since the establishment of the studio in 1994, Miles Jacobson, the head of Sports, has acknowledged his desire for a Premier deal. “[Letting] us help with the incredible things that the Premier League and their clubs do off the pitch,” including community and charity work, is, in his opinion, the deal’s greatest advantage.
“We are very grateful to the Premier League and their other partners in our space,” he said, “for enabling us to be an officially licensed product of the world’s most commercially successful football league.”
