Michael Gove has stated that Labour may “rig the system” to establish a “forever government” if the party receives a sizable majority on July 4.
Labour is expected to win the upcoming election with a large landslide, according to a number of opinion surveys.
The Levelling Up Secretary, Mr. Gove, stated this morning that voters could wonder what a result like that could signify for democracy.
As the Levelling Up Secretary said to Sky News, “We hope that our message about taxes is being understood. One thing is that, if people think back on the polls—which some will undoubtedly do—they will ask themselves this question: If Labour does have such a sizable majority, what will stop them from manipulating the system?
“What’s to stop them from ensuring that they could be a government for all time, and from giving votes to prisoners, 16-year-olds, and EU citizens?”
In its manifesto, Labour promised to reduce the voting age to sixteen. The general election voting rights of EU citizens and inmates are not included in the manifesto.
