I wasn’t too like of the concept of needing to pay to enter a store when I initially joined Costco, especially considering how much money I would unavoidably spend while shopping.
I don’t mind paying for a Costco membership these days because the money I save on groceries and household goods alone each year more than covers the membership fee. In fact, after deducting the $60 basic membership price, you still come out ahead by $200 even if you just save $5 a week on groceries by shopping at Costco.
Not only can you save a tonne of money at Costco, but there’s also an almost absurdly simple way to obtain free money every year from Costco. And if you enjoy free money as much as I do, this is a strategy I wholeheartedly endorse.
Choosing the right membership could really pay off
The $60 Gold Star membership at Costco is not your only choice to become a member. Another option was to purchase an Executive membership for $120. “Why on earth would I pay double to join Costco?” is probably what’s on your mind right now. However, the solution is straightforward.
With Costco’s Executive membership, practically every purchase earns you 2% in cash back. A few specific products are not included in that benefit, such as gas, food court meals, and stamps. However, you could discover that most of the goods you purchase at qualify for cash back. And that free money might mount up over the course of a year recover is just financial gain for you.
Let’s say you shop at Costco for $100 every week, or $5,200 year. If you have an Executive membership with stocks costco, they will refund you $104 of that. Recall that upgrading from the basic membership costs $60. Even so, you’ve gained $44 overall for the year with your $104 return. It’s not a terrible deal.
In fact, if you anticipate spending more than $3,000 at Costco year, it makes complete sense to get an Executive membership. This is because your upgrade cost is covered—$60, or 2% of $3,000—back. From that point on, each dollar you
Your free money could really add up
You can earn up to $1,000 in cash back per year with your Executive membership the more money you spend at stock. Naturally, you shouldn’t set your goal for $1,000 annually as that will equate to $50,000 in retail purchases. That’s a big sum of money, too.
However, offers a wide range of expensive goods, including appliances, electronics, and furnishings. You may be reimbursed for a percentage of the cost if you purchase those from Costco.
It’s also important to note that Costco Travel vacation reservations are eligible for cash back with an Executive membership. Traveling has become increasingly expensive these days, so if you’re going to arrange a $4,000 trip, you might as well do it through Costco if they have a package that suits your needs and you can recoup $80 of that cost.
Has the cashier at your neighborhood supermarket ever given you a $5 bill as a token of appreciation for your business when you purchase groceries? Most likely not. But if you have the appropriate kind of membership, will really pay you free money for buying there. Therefore, if you visit frequently enough or have some larger purchases in mind, it makes sense to save up money for the Executive edition.
