  • (Reuters) -Elon Musk, a U.S. billionaire, said on social networking platform X on Wednesday that Dell Technologies and Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ: SMCI) would provide server racks for the supercomputer that his artificial intelligence firm, xAI, is creating.
  • According to Musk on X, Dell (NYSE: DELL) is putting together half of the racks for xAI’s supercomputer. Super Micro is a company that makes servers. The billionaire said “SMC” in response to a post asking about the second partner.
  • Super Micro, a San Francisco-based company well-known for its liquid cooling technology and strong relationships with semiconductor companies like Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA), confirmed the collaboration with xAI to Reuters.
  • In a different post on X, Dell CEO Michael Dell said that the business was constructing an “AI factory” with Nvidia, a major player in artificial intelligence, which would power the next iteration of xAI’s chatbot Grok.
  • According to a May article by the Information, Musk has informed investors that his artificial intelligence business, xAI, intends to construct a supercomputer to power the next iteration of its AI chatbot, Grok.
  • Musk said earlier this year that around 20,000 Nvidia H100 graphics processing units (GPUs) were needed for the Grok 2 model’s training. He went on to say that 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs would be needed for the Grok 3 model and beyond.
  • According to the Information, Musk has said that he hopes to get the projected supercomputer operational by the autumn of 2025.
  • In an attempt to take on Alphabet’s (NASDAQ: GOOGL) Google and Microsoft-backed OpenAI, Musk established xAI last year. Alongside, Musk co-founded OpenAI.
