Lowa football’s new color analyst is Pat Angerer

LOWA CITY Hawkeye Sports Properties, the local branch of Learfield, the media and technology firm that powers collegiate athletics, announced on Monday that Pat Angerer, a former University of Iowa All-America linebacker, has been chosen the color analyst for the Iowa football program.

Angerer will be in the booth with the Voice of the Hawkeyes, Gary Dolphin, starting on August 31 during the season’s opening game at Kinnick Stadium against Illinois State.

Angerer expressed gratitude to Learfield and the University of Iowa for this wonderful opportunity. “They have been courteous and professional at all times since this process started. Being a tiny part of a program that has treated me and my teammates so well throughout the years makes me feel immensely honored.

“I hope that I can do them, the university, the football program, and the fans justice. Ed Podolak and Gary Dolphin have been a big part of my Hawkeye football experience as a player and supporter. I intend to approach the booth with the same fervor I did as a player.

Between 2005 and 2009, Angerer was a member of the Hawkeyes’ roster. During that time, he recorded 258 tackles, which included 11.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, and six interceptions. During his time in Iowa, the Bettendorf, Iowa, native was a part of four bowl teams: the 2005 Outback, 2006 Alamo, 2008 Outback, and 2009 Orange.

Kirk Ferentz, the head football coach at Moon Family, said, “Pat’s love for Hawkeye football has been evident from the moment he set foot on campus nearly 15 years ago.” “Throughout his career, he served as the foundation of our team, and I have no doubt that he will excel on the air.”

Angerer was named to the Football Writers Association of America’s first team and Phil Steele’s College Football’s second team as a senior in 2009; Walter Camp and the Associated Press named him to their second team. In addition, he was a Bronko Nagurski Award finalist.

At 12.8 stops per game in conference play, Angerer led the Big Ten in tackles (and he was second in all games at 11.2 tackles per game). After leading Iowa to an 11-2 record (6-2 in the Big Ten) and an Orange Bowl victory over Georgia Tech, he was chosen for the first team of the All-Big Ten. The squad ranked eighth nationally at the end of the season.

Angerer was named to the second team of the Big Ten in 2008, following two seasons as a reserve linebacker. After a win over Wisconsin in the season, he was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, and he led the team with 107 tackles.

Angerer was chosen by the Indianapolis Colts with the 63rd overall in the 2010 NFL Draft after his time as a Hawkeye. 328 career tackles, 2.5 sacks, 14 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, and two interceptions were all earned during his four seasons as an Indianapolis player.

Angerer played for two NFL postseason teams (2010) and (2012). He was named to the 2010 PFWA and The Sporting News All-Rookie teams.

Vice President & General Manager of Hawkeye Sports Properties Gabe Aguirre commented, “We are thrilled to welcome Pat to the Hawkeye Radio Network.” “We are confident that as our color analyst, he will bring the same passion and vigor to every game day as he did while he was playing. Although it’s never easy to replace a legend, Pat’s enthusiasm for the Hawkeyes and his experiences in college and the NFL make him the ideal choice to join Gary in the booth.

Angerer proposed to Mary Beth after the Orange Bowl victory in 2009, and the two of them now live in Bettendorf. The three children of the couple are Avery, a female, and Emmett and Cael, two boys.
