The third Closed Beta (CB3) of Studio369’s massively multiplayer online game (MMO), MetalCore, is scheduled to start on June 27.
During this beta phase, several updates will be made, such as adding Web3 technology and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to the gameplay.
Dan Nikolaides, the chief technology officer of MetalCore and a veteran software developer at WB Games and Midway, discussed the switch from Web2 to Web3 with Cointelegraph.
NFT implications within the game
With the introduction of NFTs, a player-driven economy will be established by enabling players to possess unique, tradeable in-game commodities.
Nikolaides talked about using “blueprints” that are essential for game development and player advancement.
“The scanning system is set up such that you must play the game to locate uncommon vehicle and mech combinations, then scan them to obtain blueprints.”
In addition, SHARDS, an off-chain currency that lets users buy digital collectibles with fiat money, is introduced in this most recent testing phase. Nikolaides stated:
“We’re attempting to find the ideal balance between individuals who have a strong desire to play a lot and those who need to spend money to succeed.”
Web2 users’ integration with Web3
To enhance in-game features without needing users to have a digital wallet, CB3 incorporates Web3 technology.
This middleware layer was implemented in collaboration with Immutable by Studio369 to cater to both traditional gamers and those who are acquainted with blockchain technology.
“We didn’t want any of our game design to be impacted by the Web3 implementation.”
The developers of MetalCore, according to Nikolaides, “want to grow slowly” to expand the game “responsibly.”
Ronin introduces zkEVM, a gaming
Concurrent with MetalCore’s advancements, Ronin has declared its expansion to facilitate a more extensive gaming ecosystem using a zero-knowledge (ZK) Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) blockchain.
According to Sky Mavis co-founder Jeff Zirlin, the invention would enable up to four billion transactions every day.
