Declan Rice Faces Challenges in Arsenal’s Season Start

Declan Rice, Arsenal’s key midfielder and last season’s player of the year, has faced a difficult start to the 2025-26 Premier League season, with underwhelming performances in matches against Manchester United and Liverpool.

In Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Old Trafford, Rice struggled to control the midfield, with limited impact in his trademark passing and ball-carrying. In a subsequent loss to Liverpool, his wayward free-kick and poor set-piece delivery highlighted a dip in form.

Rice’s challenges coincide with adapting to new signing Martin Zubimendi. Their lack of chemistry was evident, notably when Zubimendi’s foul led to Liverpool’s winning free-kick by Dominik Szoboszlai, adding pressure on Rice to gel quickly.

Arsenal fans, reliant on Rice’s ability to progress the ball last season, are anxious for his return to form post-international break. His leadership and experience remain vital for the Gunners’ title aspirations.

Despite the struggles, Rice’s dip is seen as growing pains rather than a decline in ability. His 91% pass completion rate (129/142) over recent games shows glimpses of quality, but consistency is needed.

Declan Rice’s return to peak performance will be crucial for Arsenal’s success. Time to build synergy with Zubimendi and sharper set-piece execution could see him reclaim his status as a midfield linchpin.
