Alexander Isak’s Record Move Shocks

Overview

Alexander Isak’s £125M transfer to Liverpool marks a British record, finalized on a frantic Premier League deadline day. Newcastle secure a new striker to replace him, while other clubs rush to complete deals before the window closes at 4am AEST on September 2, 2025.

Isak’s Blockbuster Move

The 25-year-old Swedish striker’s move to Liverpool for £125M ($169M) surpasses the previous British record of £106M. Isak, who scored 23 Premier League goals last season, is set to sign a six-year deal until 2031 after a medical on Monday. His transfer follows a saga where he trained separately from Newcastle, pushing for the move after an initial £110M bid was rejected.

Newcastle’s Response

Newcastle softened their stance after signing a German international striker for a club-record £69M, easing profit and sustainability concerns. They’ve also agreed to sign a Brentford forward for £55M, who scored 19 Premier League goals last season, bolstering their attack for the Champions League.

Other Deadline Day Moves

Manchester City are set to sign a 26-year-old Italian goalkeeper for €35M, despite their current keeper’s potential move to Turkey. Manchester United, addressing goalkeeping issues, have agreed a €21M deal for a young Belgian keeper. Aston Villa are eyeing loan deals for a Manchester United winger and a Liverpool midfielder, while Tottenham secure a season-long loan for a PSG striker.

Transfer Window Frenzy

With the Premier League window closing earlier at 7pm BST (4am AEST), clubs face intense pressure. Liverpool’s spending nears £416M this summer, offset by departures worth £190M. The rush for last-minute signings, including a potential £35M deal for a Crystal Palace defender, keeps the deadline day drama alive.
