Pittsburgh was officially announced as one of 20 finalists for USA Today’s 10Best “Best Beer City” award. A panel of beer experts curated the shortlist, and the final ranking will be decided by a public vote that runs through February 23, 2026.
The nomination highlights Pittsburgh’s transformation from a traditional industrial powerhouse into a premier destination for craft beverage enthusiasts, boasting more than 40 breweries within the city and over 60 in the surrounding region.
Why Pittsburgh Was Nominated
The expert panel cited the city’s blend of historic brewing roots and innovative newcomers as the primary reason for its inclusion.
Top-Tier Breweries: Favorites like Grist House Craft Brewery and Dancing Gnome were specifically noted for their leadership in the New England IPA (NEIPA) category.
Inclusive Beer Culture: The Barrel & Flow Fest was praised as a standout event. It is nationally recognized as the first Black-owned craft beer festival in the U.S., drawing over 3,000 participants to celebrate Black-owned breweries and artists.
Neighborhood Density: With over 40 breweries to choose from, the city offers high density in areas like Lawrenceville, the North Side (Deutschtown), and the Strip District.
Market Trends: In 2025, Pittsburgh was ranked as the #4 Best Beer City in this same contest, and recent data from real estate and fintech firms have previously ranked it #1 for overall affordability and volume for beer drinkers.
The Competition: 2026 Finalists
Pittsburgh is competing against some of the most established beer hubs in the United States.
