Rackspace 2025 Loss Reported Amid Heavy 2026 AI Pivot

The market is processing the Q4 and full-year 2025 earnings report from Rackspace Technology (RXT), released just two days ago on February 26. The results confirm a year of significant structural change, characterized by a massive narrowing of net losses and a high-stakes pivot toward Enterprise AI and Private Cloud services.

Despite a revenue dip, the company’s stock has experienced extreme volatility this month, surging over 300% at one point following a strategic AI partnership with Palantir.

2025 Financial Recap: Narrowing the Gap

While Rackspace remains in the red, the “red ink” is thinning rapidly. Management is framing 2025 as the “inflection point” where the heavy lifting of restructuring began to pay off.

  • Net Loss Improvement: Rackspace reported a full-year 2025 net loss of $226 million, a dramatic 74% improvement compared to the staggering $858 million loss in 2024.

  • Revenue Trends: Total 2025 revenue landed at $2.69 billion, down 2% year-over-year. This reflects a deliberate exit from low-margin legacy contracts in favor of higher-value engagements.

  • Segment Performance: * Public Cloud: Revenue grew 1% to $1.70 billion, showing resilience.

    • Private Cloud: Revenue fell 6% to $990 million, though management expects this segment to return to growth in 2026 due to AI demand.

  • Cash Flow: A bright spot for shareholders was operating cash flow, which more than tripled to $151 million in 2025.

The 2026 AI Pivot: “The Private Cloud Renaissance”

CEO Gajen Kandiah has positioned 2026 as the year Rackspace becomes the “backbone for enterprise AI in regulated environments.” The strategy relies on three pillars:

  1. The Palantir Partnership: Rackspace will host and manage Palantir’s Foundry and AIP (Artificial Intelligence Platform). The company plans to scale its Palantir-trained engineering team from 30 to over 250 within the next 12 months.

  2. Regulated Workloads: Unlike public AI, Rackspace is targeting healthcare and government sectors that require “sovereign” data centers where AI models can run without exposing sensitive proprietary data.

  3. Platform Engineering: A shift toward “forward-deployed” engineers who embed within client teams to operationalize AI, moving beyond simple cloud hosting into high-margin consulting.
