Rolls-Royce has secured a large contract to supply dozens of engines for a new fleet of aircraft. The Derby-based company’s civil aerospace division will manufacture 60 Trent 7000 engines to power 30 Airbus A330-900neo aircraft ordered by Hong Kong’s flag carrier Cathay Pacific. The airline has also inked a TotalCare service deal with Rolls-Royce, which includes wing and aircraft maintenance.Ewen McDonald, chief customer officer for Rolls-Royce’s civil aerospace group, stated that the combined aircraft and engines will lower emissions by 14%.

In addition to the engine supply, Cathay Pacific has also signed a TotalCare service agreement with Rolls-Royce. This comprehensive service deal covers not only the maintenance of the engines but also includes wing and aircraft maintenance, ensuring the long-term reliability and efficiency of the fleet. TotalCare has been a hallmark of Rolls-Royce’s service offerings, providing customers with peace of mind through proactive maintenance and support, reducing downtime, and enhancing overall operational efficiency.

The Trent 7000 engine is known for its advanced technology and fuel efficiency. It is designed to deliver exceptional performance, with Rolls-Royce emphasizing that the combination of these engines with the Airbus A330-900neo aircraft will result in a 14% reduction in emissions compared to previous-generation aircraft. This reduction is a significant step forward in the aviation industry’s ongoing efforts to minimize its environmental impact.

Ewen McDonald, the Chief Customer Officer for Rolls-Royce’s civil aerospace group, expressed pride in the partnership with Cathay Pacific. He noted that the deal reflects the strong relationship between the two companies and demonstrates Rolls-Royce’s commitment to advancing cleaner, more efficient air travel. McDonald highlighted that the Trent 7000 engine, combined with the Airbus A330-900neo, represents a new standard in operational efficiency and environmental performance.

This contract is not only a testament to Rolls-Royce’s engineering excellence but also a critical boost to its civil aerospace division. The company has faced challenges in recent years, including the impact of the global pandemic on air travel, making this deal a significant achievement as it continues to rebuild and strengthen its position in the market.

The partnership with Cathay Pacific is expected to have a positive impact on Rolls-Royce’s financial performance and reinforces its reputation as a leading provider of cutting-edge aerospace technology. As the aviation industry gradually recovers and seeks more sustainable solutions, Rolls-Royce’s innovative engine technology and comprehensive service offerings position it well for future growth.
