The last nail in Eminem’s alter ego’s coffin was driven: “The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)” is finally here

Eminem’s the iconic rapper, has officially bid farewell to his alter ego with the release of his twelfth studio album, The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce). This album marks a significant turning point in his career, symbolizing the end of his infamous character, Slim Shady.

Highlights from the Album

The album features 19 tracks, including the main songs “Houdini” and “Tobey,” which were released before the album and featured fellow Detroit rappers Big Sean and BabyTron. Notably, “Guilty Conscience 2” serves as a sequel to the Dr. Dre-assisted hit “Guilty Conscience” from The Slim Shady LP in 1999.

Eminem’s Dramatic Farewell to Slim Shady

In the lead-up to the album’s release, Eminem spent weeks dismantling Slim Shady both figuratively and literally. The music video for “Tobey” features Eminem using a chainsaw to dismember his alter ego, symbolizing a final, brutal goodbye. He also published a fictitious obituary for Slim Shady in the Detroit Free Press, lamenting the end of his “tortured existence.”

The obituary poignantly reflected on Slim Shady’s life, stating, “His intricate and tormented life has concluded, and the legacy he bequeaths is no more resolved than the way this character left this world.” It continued, “A Detroit native who started out as a renegade member of the thriving underground rap scene in the mid to late 1990s, Shady first gained widespread recognition in 1999 with the release of his humorously deranged single ‘My Name Is.’ This, coupled with its strikingly visual accompanying video, introduced the up-and-coming artist and his lyrics to a broader audience. In the end, what at first glance seemed to be his instruments became calling cards that characterized a life that could only end abruptly and horrifyingly. May he truly find the peace in an afterlife that he could not find on Earth.”
