The 9th Earl Spencer, the brother of Princess Diana, and the Countess of Spencer Karen Spencer, his 13-year wife, have announced their divorce.
It is really depressing. In a statement released on Sunday, he told the Mail, “I just want to devote myself to all of my children and my grandchildren, and I wish Karen every happiness in the future.”
The report revealed that the couple’s marriage “broke down amid the strain of writing his harrowing memoir detailing the physical and sexual abuse he suffered at boarding school” as the reason for their breakup.
Charlotte Diana is their 12-year-old daughter.
According to The Times, the Earl has enlisted the services of renowned divorce lawyer Fiona Shackleton to represent him. Shackleton is the same attorney that King Charles previously used during their 1992 divorce from Princess Diana.
Shackleton also acted as Prince Andrew’s attorney during his separation from Sarah Ferguson.
Along with Viscount Althorp (who he married Victoria Lockwood in his first marriage), the Honourable Edmund Spencer, and Lady Lara Spencer (who he married Caroline Freud in his second marriage), the Earl is also the father of Lady Kitty Spencer, Lady Eliza Spencer, Lady Amelia Spencer, and Louis Spencer.
