Taiwan Chipmaker Unimicron Plans Up to $1.4 Billion Offering Amid AI-Driven Semiconductor Boom

Global Depositary Share Sale Highlights Strong Investor Appetite for PCB and Substrate Firms

Unimicron Technology Corp., one of Taiwan’s leading printed circuit board (PCB) and chip substrate manufacturers, is planning to raise up to $1.4 billion through a global depositary share (GDS) offering, according to a term sheet seen by Reuters, as semiconductor firms continue tapping capital markets to fund AI-driven expansion.

The planned sale reflects strong investor demand for companies positioned in the AI hardware supply chain, particularly those producing critical components for advanced computing systems.

Pricing Set at Discount to Market

Under the proposed structure, Unimicron is offering:

  • Around 50 million global depositary shares
  • Price range of $26.96 to $27.76 per share
  • Each GDS equals one ordinary share
  • A discount of roughly 3%–6% versus recent Taipei trading levels

The shares are expected to be listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, with final pricing expected soon after marketing concludes.

Funds to Support Raw Material Purchases

According to the offering details, proceeds will primarily be used to:

  • Purchase raw materials priced in foreign currencies
  • Strengthen supply chain stability
  • Support ongoing production expansion
  • Manage cost exposure from global input volatility

This reflects increasing pressure on chip component makers to secure stable supply lines amid fluctuating global commodity and currency conditions.

AI Boom Driving Semiconductor Financing Wave

Unimicron’s capital raise comes as a broader wave of semiconductor and AI-linked companies tap global investors.

Across Asia and the U.S., firms are increasingly raising funds to:

  • Expand AI server capacity
  • Increase advanced packaging production
  • Build high-bandwidth memory supply chains
  • Secure substrate and PCB manufacturing inputs

Recent listings and offerings from memory and chip companies underscore how AI infrastructure demand is reshaping capital markets.

Key Role in AI Hardware Supply Chain

Unimicron is a critical supplier in the semiconductor ecosystem, producing:

  • ABF substrates for advanced chips
  • High-density interconnect (HDI) PCBs
  • Flexible circuit boards
  • Rigid-flex components used in servers and consumer electronics

These components are essential for connecting and supporting high-performance chips used in AI servers, GPUs, and data center systems.

Strong Growth Driven by AI Demand

The company has benefited significantly from the AI investment cycle, with:

  • Rising demand for high-end substrates
  • Tight supply conditions in advanced packaging materials
  • Increased utilization rates across production lines
  • Long-term structural demand from data center expansion

Industry analysts expect AI-related applications to continue driving strong revenue contributions for Unimicron in the coming years.

Broader Industry Capital Market Trend

The offering is part of a wider trend where semiconductor firms are:

  • Raising equity or depositary shares to fund expansion
  • Locking in supply chain resilience
  • Scaling production ahead of expected AI demand growth
  • Competing for advanced manufacturing capacity

Similar fundraising efforts across Asia highlight how AI has become a dominant driver of capital allocation in global tech markets.

Looking Ahead

If successfully completed, Unimicron’s $1.4 billion offering will reinforce its position as a key beneficiary of the global AI hardware cycle while providing additional capital to secure raw materials and expand capacity.

As AI infrastructure demand continues to grow, companies embedded in the semiconductor supply chain are expected to remain active in equity markets, balancing rapid expansion needs with financial stability in a highly competitive global environment.
