Apple will leave out important features from macOS Sequoia and iOS 18 for customers in the EU: This is why
  • Three significant elements of Apple Inc.’s forthcoming operating systems will not be available to users in the European Union (EU), the company has announced. When iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia are launched in the fall, these features will not be available.
  • What transpired: SharePlay Screen Sharing, iPhone Mirroring to macOS Sequoia, and Apple Intelligence will not be accessible in the EU. According to an Apple statement provided to the Financial Times, this decision was made in response to regulatory concerns over the Digital Markets Act (DMA).
  • Users may now view a live interactive screen of their iPhone on their Mac with iPhone Mirroring to macOS Sequoia, and SharePlay Screen Sharing is an improvement over FaceTime’s screen sharing functionality.
  • In light of these additional characteristics, it is unclear what the DMA’s interoperability criteria are. Apple, meanwhile, has declared that “privacy and security” will be jeopardized.

  • Among the most important improvements that Apple presented at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) are these features.
  • This autumn, Apple Intelligence for US English-language smartphones running iOS 18.0 will start to roll out. Upcoming iOS 18 updates will bring more Intelligence features, like some of the new Siri functions.
  • Later this year, macOS Sequoia will receive an update that will include the Mac iPhone Mirroring capability. There should be a SharePlay Screen Sharing feature in the initial iOS 18.0 release.
  • Why It Matters: Considering how important the EU market is to Apple, the lack of these functionalities in the EU is a significant development.
  • Leading the charge in enforcing strict privacy and security regulations on major tech corporations is the European Union.
  • Apple’s decision to make this step may have a big effect on how it interacts with the EU and its customers there.
