India advances to the Super 8s after defeating the US by 7 wickets

  • After shocking Pakistan last week, India defeated the United States by seven wickets thanks to a half-century from Suryakumar Yadav.
  • India advanced to the “Super Eight” round with the victory. To progress, the United States must defeat Ireland on Friday.

New York City’s Westbury

  • At the Twenty20 World Cup on Wednesday, cricket heavyweight India easily defeated the United States, meaning there would be no upset this time.
  • After shocking Pakistan last week, India defeated the United States by seven wickets thanks to a half-century from Suryakumar Yadav.
  • India advanced to the Super 8 round with the victory. If the US defeats Ireland on Friday, they can move forward.
  • Sherfane Rutherford led the West Indies in their historic comeback, as they defeated New Zealand by 13 runs in a later game played at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad. Rutherford amassed an undefeated 68 off 39 deliveries.
  • Before their Rutherford-led comeback, the Caribbean team was 76-7, finishing at 149-9 in its 20 overs. Gudakesh Motie claimed three wickets, including that of New Zealand captain Kane Williamson for one, while Alzarri Joseph claimed four wickets to limit the Black Caps to 136-9 in response.
  • Yadvav scored 50 runs on Long Island from 49 balls, with two boundaries and two sixes. In an undefeated fourth-wicket stand with Shivam Dube, who struck 31 not out, he put on 72 runs off 65 balls as India concluded with 111-3 in 18.2 overs in response to the United States’ 110-8.
  • Arshdeep Singh, a left-arm pacer, restricted the co-hosts after India won the toss and chose to field at the Nassau County International Stadium with figures of 4-9, including two wickets in the opening over.
  • On June 12, 2024, at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad and Tobago, during the men’s T20 World Cup cricket match between the West Indies and New Zealand, Finn Allen, left, of New Zealand, runs between the wickets.
  • On June 12, 2024, at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad, and Tobago, during the men’s T20 World Cup cricket match between the West Indies and New Zealand, Finn Allen, left, of New Zealand, runs between the wickets.
  • As Indian-born medium pacer Saurabh Netravalkar resumed his incredible run for the Americans, India was in early difficulty in their chase.
  • Following the surprise victory over Pakistan by bowling the co-hosts, he celebrated the wickets of Indian superstars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
  • A career highlight for Netravalkar, Kohli was caught behind for a golden duck and bowled off the first delivery he faced. Netravalkar concluded with 2–18 in four overs as Sharma (3) was caught off guard by a slower ball.
  • Batting at number three, Rishabh Pant made 18 off 20 balls before being bowled by an Ali Khan delivery. India was struggling at 39-3 in 7.3 overs, and for a brief while, the U.S. squad imagined an even bigger shock.
  • West Indies progress after 5.4 overs, with the West Indies down 22-4, left-hander Rutherford came to the crease to change the tide in favor of the host team. Rutherford finished the last over with a six and a boundary, scoring eighteen runs.
  • Following the defeat, there is a good chance that New Zealand will not advance to the next round. New Zealand, who finished third the last three times, will not be in the running if Afghanistan defeats Papua New Guinea on Thursday.
  • The Black Caps led the game throughout the majority of the first half.
  • But as the West Indies amassed 58-2 in the final five overs of their innings, Rutherford launched an assault.
  • After ace all-rounder Andre Russell was out for 14 in the 13th over, he was 15 from 14 deliveries. He then quickly got going with the lower order in a counterattacking 72-minute innings that included two boundaries and six sixes.
  • “It feels fantastic to support my team. During the innings break, man-of-the-match Rutherford declared, “That is what we live for and work hard for.” “Starting on that surface was really difficult. 149, in my opinion, is an excellent score on this wicket.”
  • Rutherford struck a more upbeat note after the game, saying, “Hopefully we can keep winning and momentum going.” It was just the beginning of something tremendous.
  • After winning the toss and fielding, New Zealand got off to a strong start when opener Johnson Charles was bowled by Trent Boult (3-16) to finish the first over.
  • After missing New Zealand’s opening defeat against Afghanistan, Tim Southee (2-21) was summoned back and quickly got rid of dangerous player Nicholas Pooran for 12 in the fourth over, setting up a sequence of three wickets for three runs.
  • After a slower ball tricked Roston Chase, Lockie Ferguson made it 21-3. Five balls later, Southee got skipper Rovman Powell (1) behind.
  • Rutherford accepted the offer as Russell launched an assault, but his departure due to a deep ball of Boult’s bowling looked to be an insurmountable blow.
  • The captain of New Zealand, Williamson, stated, “Sherfane’s innings was of high quality.” “There’s no denying that their side’s depth at bat helped. There are no justifications for us; we must find a solution.”
