Kansas Baseball Sweeps McNeese in 3-0 Series

On Thursday, February 26, 2026, the Kansas Jayhawks baseball program is savoring the momentum of its first series sweep of the season. Following a three-game weekend takeover against McNeese State in Lake Charles, Louisiana, the Jayhawks improved their overall record to 5-2.

The sweep (February 20–22) was defined by a massive turnaround in starting pitching and a relentless offensive attack that forced McNeese into early defensive errors.

Series Scoreboard: Kansas at McNeese

DateResultScoreKey Standout
Friday, Feb 20Win11-2Dominic Voegele: 6.0 IP, 2 hits, 4 strikeouts
Saturday, Feb 21Win8-2Brady Ballinger: 4-for-5, 2 RBIs
Sunday, Feb 22Win6-1Madden Seidl: 4.0 IP, 1 earned run (W)

The Turning Point: Starting Pitching Depth

After a high-scoring opening weekend in Texas, Head Coach Dan Fitzgerald saw his rotation stabilize against the Cowboys. The starting staff allowed just four earned runs over 15 innings during the weekend.

  • Mathis Nayral: Building on his strong debut, Nayral secured his second win on Saturday, striking out a season-high six batters.

  • Dominic Voegele: Bounced back from a rocky season opener to provide a “quality start” on Friday, holding McNeese to just two hits over six frames.

  • Bullpen Dominance: The relief corps, led by Toby Scheidt and Manning West, was exceptional. Over the final two games, the bullpen surrendered zero runs, effectively shutting down any potential McNeese rallies in the middle and late innings.

Offensive Leaders: The “Ballinger Factor”

Left fielder Brady Ballinger emerged as the series MVP, fueled by a move from the second to the third spot in the batting order. Ballinger finished the weekend 7-for-15 with five RBIs and three runs scored. His four-hit performance on Saturday has already caught the attention of MLB scouts for the upcoming 2026 draft.

Additionally, Jordan Bach and Tyson LeBlanc provided power at the top of the lineup, with both recording home runs in the Friday night opener to set the tone for the rest of the series.

What’s Next for the Jayhawks?

Kansas traveled to Minneapolis yesterday, February 25, to begin a midweek clash against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. This road stretch is a critical litmus test for the Jayhawks before they return to Lawrence for their home opener at Hoglund Ballpark in early March.
