Klint Kubiak Set to Become Raiders Head Coach

In a move to end their coaching carousel and pair a bright offensive mind with a potentially generational quarterback, the Las Vegas Raiders are reportedly finalizing a deal to name Klint Kubiak their new head coach.

The news, which broke on February 1, 2026, indicates that the 38-year-old rising star will become the franchise’s fifth full-time leader since their move to Las Vegas. While the hiring remains a “handshake agreement” until after Super Bowl LX on February 8—where Kubiak will call plays for the Seattle Seahawks against the New England Patriots—the Raiders have officially “zeroed in” on their man.

The Kubiak Era: A Rebuild Around the No. 1 Pick

The Raiders are coming off a grueling 3–14 season under Pete Carroll, but they hold the ultimate “reset button”: the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Why Klint Kubiak?

  • The “Mendoza” Mandate: Kubiak’s primary mission is to develop Fernando Mendoza, the Heisman-winning Indiana quarterback expected to be the top pick. Kubiak’s success in revitalizing Sam Darnold into a 14-win Super Bowl quarterback this season was reportedly the deciding factor for Raiders GM John Spytek and minority owner Tom Brady.

  • Coaching Lineage: Klint is the son of Super Bowl-winning coach Gary Kubiak. If the deal is finalized, they will become the 10th father-son duo to serve as NFL head coaches.

  • Offensive Pedigree: Kubiak’s scheme—refined under Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco and implemented in Seattle—transformed the Seahawks into one of the league’s most efficient scoring machines in 2025.

The Las Vegas Coaching Carousel

The Raiders have been searching for stability since 2020. Kubiak will be tasked with bringing a consistent identity to a locker room that has seen three coaches in as many seasons.

Key Storylines to Watch

  • Staffing: Reports suggest Kubiak may target Seattle’s offensive line coach Andy Heck or defensive coordinator candidates from the Shanahan coaching tree to round out his staff.

  • The Brady Influence: Minority owner Tom Brady was reportedly “heavily involved” in the second interview process, favoring Kubiak’s structured, quarterback-friendly system over defensive-minded finalists like Ejiro Evero.

  • The Formal Announcement: Expect the “Silver and Black” to hold a formal press conference at Allegiant Stadium on Monday, February 9, immediately following the Super Bowl.

“What Kubiak did in Seattle surely caught the Raiders’ attention… his primary job will be to develop quarterback Fernando Mendoza and finally give the franchise a fair chance to compete.” — NFL Analysis, Feb 2026
