On Monday, OpenAI announced the hiring of Sarah Friar, the former CEO of social media platform Nextdoor, as its first chief financial officer.

Kevin Weil, who has previously worked for Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, has been named chief product officer at the artificial intelligence firm.

Friar previously worked as CFO at Square and is a member of Walmart’s board. She has previously worked at Goldman Sachs, McKinsey, and Salesforce.

“Sarah and Kevin bring a depth of experience that will enable OpenAI to scale our operations, set a strategy for the next phase of growth, and ensure that our teams have the resources they need to continue to thrive,” Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said in a statement on Monday.

The new appointments come after the resignation of OpenAI co-founder and chief scientist Ilya Sutskever in May, who was replaced by Jakub Pachocki.

Pachocki previously worked as OpenAI’s director of research, overseeing the creation of GPT-4 and OpenAI Five.

Sutskever played an important part in Altman’s dramatic firing and rehiring in November of last year. Sutskever was a member of OpenAI’s board at the time and played a role in Altman’s termination.

Days later, he switched course, signing an employee letter urging Altman’s reinstatement and apologizing for his “participation in the board’s actions.”

When Altman returned, Sutskever was removed from the board, and his role in the corporation became unclear.

Andrej Karpathy, an artificial intelligence researcher and founding member of OpenAI, quit the business in February.

OpenAI announced in March that it had appointed new directors, including Altman, Sue Desmond-Hellmann, a former CEO of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Nicole Seligman, a former president of Sony Entertainment, and Fidji Simo, CEO of Instacart.
