In a celebration of scientific excellence and industrial progress, the 51st Annual VASVIK Industrial Research Awards were held on January 31, 2026, at B. J. Hall in Mumbai.
Hosted by the non-profit Vividhlaxi Audyogik Samshodhan Vikas Kendra (VASVIK), the ceremony honored 18 Indian scientists for their outstanding contributions across the 2024 and 2025 award cycles. The event emphasized the critical intersection of industrial innovation, national economic growth, and the spiritual “silence” required for true discovery.

The VASVIK Mission
Since 1973, VASVIK has awarded over 450 scientists, focusing on those whose work moves beyond the lab and into the industrial sector to drive India’s self-reliance.
Merit-Driven Selection: Chairman of the Board of Advisors, Prof. M. M. Sharma, emphasized that recipients are chosen by independent committees of respected peers, ensuring the awards remain a symbol of genuine merit.
Economic Drivers: The 2026 awards specifically underscored the role of research in “import substitution” and saving foreign exchange—critical pillars of India’s current economic strategy.
“Science calls for courage and the willingness to think differently. Real progress is possible when thought, purpose, and responsibility come together.” — Lord Dr. Frank Mentrup, Feb 2026
