You can no longer see who “liked” any of your postings on Elon Musk’s X

The modification became operative on Wednesday. It appears that the "Likes" option was limited to a user's personal profile page as of this afternoon. However, that tab is no longer accessible when viewing other accounts.

You can no longer see who “liked” any of your postings on Elon Musk’s X

Your likes on social networking site X are now hidden.

X’s technical team said earlier this week that it would be “making Likes private for everyone to better protect your privacy” in an update issued on the website previously known as Twitter. This implies that although some users will still be able to see their own likes, others won’t, ending a function that many have been using for a very long time.

  • A pop-up notice that seemed to indicate the adjustment would increase user engagement was also sent to users.
  • The notice said, “Your ‘For you’ feed will look better if you like more posts.”
  • The technical team’s update states that a user’s own posts’ like counts and other data will continue to appear under alerts. Posts will continue to display the number of likes they have, but only the author will be able to see a list of all the people who have liked it.
  • Previously, only paid Premium users had the ability to conceal likes. X said that users may “keep spicy likes private by hiding your likes tab” when it first provided the option in September.
  • One of the several modifications made to the site after entrepreneur Elon Musk paid $44 billion to acquire it in 2022 is the concealed like count. Along with a new name and design, additional modifications include the removal of the formerly desirable blue checks for non-Premium users and their subsequent restoration to some.
  • The platform has received varying reactions to the in-app modifications. Many expressed worries about disinformation in the early days when X removed the verification badges from well-known authorities and news organizations. Alongside persistent worries about content moderation and hate speech on the San Francisco-based site, which some academics claim has been increasing under Musk, the company has also seen an increase in resistance from users and advertisers.
