President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Ukraine centers on an aggressive, quick-timeline proposal that reportedly involves significant concessions from Ukraine to Russia. The draft peace plan is said to call for an immediate ceasefire and the cession of substantial Ukrainian territory currently occupied or controlled by Russia, including the de facto recognition of Crimea and the eastern Donbas regions (Donetsk and Luhansk) as Russian territory.
Crucially, the proposal also reportedly seeks to cap the size of Ukraine’s military and formally bar Ukraine from future NATO membership, addressing a long-standing security demand from Moscow. While the plan offers a U.S.-led security guarantee against a future Russian re-invasion and proposes using frozen Russian assets for rebuilding, it faces staunch opposition from Ukrainian leadership, who refuse to relinquish sovereign territory or military autonomy. The proposal is intended to secure a lasting peace but would freeze the conflict with Russia retaining significant territorial gains.
