Thailand's True Internet Data Center Seeks $2 Billion Loan to Expand AI Infrastructure

Major Financing Would Support New Bangkok Data Center as Thailand Accelerates Push to Become Regional AI Hub

True Internet Data Center (True IDC) is seeking approximately $2 billion in financing to build a large new data center near Bangkok, underscoring Thailand’s ambitions to become a leading regional hub for artificial intelligence and cloud computing. The proposed borrowing would rank among the country’s largest digital infrastructure financings and reflects the rapid growth in demand for AI computing capacity across Southeast Asia.

According to people familiar with the discussions, the financing package is expected to be split into three tranches, including a US dollar-denominated portion of roughly $1.8 billion alongside two additional facilities in Thai baht. The loan is expected to carry a maturity of around five years, although negotiations with lenders remain at an early stage and the structure could still change.

Funding a New AI Data Center

The proceeds would primarily finance construction of a next-generation data center on the outskirts of Bangkok.

The project is expected to support:

  • Artificial intelligence computing.
  • Cloud infrastructure.
  • Enterprise digital services.
  • High-performance data processing.
  • Future expansion of Thailand’s digital economy.

The facility would significantly expand True IDC’s capacity to serve hyperscale cloud providers, enterprise customers, and AI developers as computing demand continues to accelerate across Asia.

Thailand’s AI Ambitions

Thailand has emerged as one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing destinations for digital infrastructure investment.

The government has actively encouraged projects involving:

  • AI infrastructure.
  • Cloud computing.
  • Data centers.
  • Digital platforms.
  • Advanced technology services.

Officials view AI infrastructure as a strategic sector capable of attracting foreign investment while strengthening Thailand’s role in the regional technology supply chain.

Global Tech Companies Expanding

Several major technology companies have already announced significant investments in Thailand.

Recent projects include infrastructure expansion by:

  • Google.
  • Amazon Web Services.
  • Microsoft.
  • TikTok.

Earlier this year, Thailand approved investment projects worth 958 billion baht, including major digital infrastructure developments that further support the country’s AI ambitions.

Regional Data Center Boom

Demand for AI computing has triggered a wave of large-scale financing across the Asia-Pacific region.

Recent examples include:

  • Large syndicated loans for Australian data center developments.
  • Green financing for Malaysian AI infrastructure.
  • Expansion of hyperscale cloud facilities across Southeast Asia.

Despite slower activity in the broader syndicated loan market, investors continue showing strong interest in financing AI-related infrastructure because of long-term demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence services.

Financing Reflects Strong Investor Interest

Although talks are still ongoing, the size of the proposed transaction highlights growing lender confidence in digital infrastructure assets.

Banks continue viewing AI-focused data centers as attractive because they benefit from:

  • Long-term customer contracts.
  • Growing enterprise demand.
  • Expanding cloud adoption.
  • Increasing AI workloads.

If completed, the financing would become one of Thailand’s largest private-sector loans dedicated to digital infrastructure.

Looking Ahead

True Internet Data Center’s proposed $2 billion loan illustrates how Southeast Asia has become an increasingly important destination for global AI infrastructure investment. As governments compete to attract hyperscale cloud providers and artificial intelligence companies, demand for advanced data centers continues growing rapidly across the region. Thailand is positioning itself at the center of this expansion by encouraging investment in large-scale digital infrastructure capable of supporting future AI development.

If the financing proceeds as planned, the new Bangkok facility would strengthen Thailand’s digital capabilities while helping meet rising demand for cloud computing, enterprise services, and AI applications. Together with ongoing investments from major international technology companies, the project reflects the country’s broader strategy of becoming one of Asia’s leading technology and artificial intelligence hubs.
