The Biden team is expected to raise a record-breaking $28 million at a Hollywood fundraiser

On Friday, Mr. Biden departed from an international leaders’ summit in Italy to go to Los Angeles for the dinner, which will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel of the late-night talk show, former president Barack Obama, and stars George Clooney and Julia Roberts. It was only anticipated that Air Force One would land in Washington for a brief stopover in order to refuel.

The trip over ten time zones demonstrated the conflicting demands on Mr. Biden’s time that come with the accelerating campaign against former President Donald J. Trump. According to Aides, the demanding schedule demonstrated that, despite being 81 years old, he still has the stamina to handle his numerous responsibilities.

A party record of $28 million was expected to be raised from Saturday’s event, surpassing the $26 million Democrats raised from a fund-raiser in New York in March that included Mr. Biden, Mr. Obama, and former President Bill Clinton.

Despite the fact that Mr. Biden and the Democrats have received more contributions than Mr. Trump’s team has for the most part of the campaign, Republicans raised $50.5 million at a Palm Beach, Florida, event in April and claimed to have raised $141 million in total in May, matching the amount that Mr. Biden and the Democrats raised in March and April put together.

Democratic supporters can purchase tickets for the Peacock Theater event for $250 or up to $500,000 for a four-seat bundle. The Democrats have historically benefited financially from the film and television industries, but the organizers of Saturday’s fundraiser intended to show Mr. Biden’s support among some of the most well-known people in the country and to increase his financial reserves.

“This Saturday, there will be an unparalleled and historic attendance from the media and entertainment industry,” stated a statement from Jeffrey Katzenberg, the prominent Hollywood entrepreneur who is currently co-chairing the Biden campaign. “There is unmatched fervor and dedication for Biden-Harris. We are all aware that this election is the most significant of our lives.

Two of the main attractions are Mr. Clooney and Ms. Roberts. However, concerns about Mr. Clooney’s backing surfaced following this month’s Washington Post story, which revealed that the actor had gotten in touch with a top White House official to voice his concerns about the Gaza War.

The president’s criticism of the International Criminal Court’s move to request an arrest warrant against senior Israeli officials for the conflict last month was the main subject of Mr. Clooney’s complaint. The actor’s wife and human rights attorney, Amal Clooney, was involved in the case. Mr. Clooney has made several requests for donations through the Biden campaign in the days since the disagreement went viral, seemingly in an attempt to demonstrate his continued support for the president.

During the event, Mr. Kimmel will conduct interviews with Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden, with a particular emphasis on health care. In 2017, following his newborn son’s need for open-heart surgery, Mr. Kimmel went public with his views regarding the significance of the Affordable Care Act, which was enacted during the administrations of Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden.

Sheryl Lee Ralph, Jason Bateman, Jack Black, and Kathryn Hahn are among the other well-known people anticipated on Saturday night.
