To replace Curtis, a heated Utah CD3 primary is won by state senator Mike Kennedy

Voters had a plethora of options when Representative John Curtis decided to run for the Senate, leaving the House seat empty.

Voters in the district were only given a few months to acquaint themselves with the five contenders running for the open seat.

With 36% of the vote at the end of the night, Mike Kennedy was followed by State Auditor John Dougall with 9%, Case Lawrence with 22%, JR Bird with 17%, and Stwart Peay with 14.7%.

Kennedy is a doctor, an attorney, and the state senator for Utah’s 14th district at this time.

If Kennedy prevails in November, he will have to close his Alpine, Utah, family practice.

This November, Kennedy will run against Democrat Glenn Wright in the general election.
